ECO DESIGN/BUILD

BT - Big Timberworks
The building matches the natural slope. A timber roof system rests on structural walls that are made of Rastra (insulated foam block with concrete infill) and finished with traditional stucco.

Mount Ellis

Initially wanting a timber frame recycled structure, the owners also had the challenge of a hill slope building site. They needed a creative approach to take advantage of the tremendous views.

Utilizing organic log pieces along with logs from a past forest fire, this unique home is almost completely recycled and energy efficient. The sod roof of native grasses absorbs and uses moisture to heat or cool the house while avoiding excess water run-off. Rastra Block, a European product utilizing concrete and foam from discarded fast food containers, adds efficient energy value while saving landfill space.

This home connects to the outside environment using modern architectural elements softened by the use of rustic, time-worn and organic materials.
